Section 10: Christian’s second wife
Since Christian’s 1783 will mentioned “my beloved wife Anna Maria Schneider”, he must have remarried after the death of his wife in June 1770, to another “Anna Maria”. This was such a common name that it is a possibility. I’ve acquired a copy of an original marriage record at First Reformed Church of Philadelphia. It’s for a “Christian Schneider and Anna Maria Jansson”, dated Nov. 15, 1770.
This new information adds another dimension to Christian’s story: Anna Maria Schneider who was buried by Rev. Henry Muhlenberg in June of 1770, was not the mother of Christian’s children born in the 1730s. Since he did not marry Anna Maria [maiden name Emmerling] until 1742, his first wife must have died.
